Confidence Man / Control
Back in early 2022, this band popped into my musical sphere with Holiday – which became my favourite and most-played track of the year. They featured at Glastonbury in 2023 and 24 – and it has been so wonderful to see them rise into the stratosphere of current global music consciousness, and to gain a legion of fans whilst doing so.
Whilst definitely not being part of their Gen-X Target Market (unfortunately I knew the 90s the first time around), it is great to hear properly cooked insistent beats and pervading synth influences. Their newest album, 3AM LA LA LA features some excellent 90s tuneage with some “inspirations” falling very close to the songs they are trying to rip off. It is still a wonderful listen, though.

Recently, life has changed once more, with opportunities to travel and explore now being more accessible. These trips are gifts – and being taken with both hands.
In previous occupations, some local and national travel was involved, but not international – and every time I travelled away when younger, for fun, or to visit friends and family, exploring further was an itch that never got scratched.
The itch became itchier during the pandemic, where there was such a desire to see more of the world, yet no means to do so, and no hope of worlds opening up to be seen.
But gates opened again. Flights re-started. Hotels re-opened and restrictions lifted. Now I am a little older and can afford to travel more, there is more travel, and more opportunities to see the world.
Seeing new places, different ways of life and different thoughts really opens the mind to what is possible. There is a world of opportunity out there for the taking. And there is always discovery to be had on the journey to get where you are going to, too.
